Bob Sarles: Producer, Director, Editor, Cinematographer
In many ways a quintessential Bay Area Film/Video Independent, Bob has successfully worn many hats to complete work in his twenty-five year career.
Sarles worked on the editorial staff of two dozen feature films as an editor, sound editor, and assistant editor. These films include:
Philip Kaufman’s "Henry & June" and his Academy Award winning "The Right Stuff", Herbert Ross’ My "Blue Heaven", Randa Haines’ "Children of a Lesser God", Frank Oz’s "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" and the ‘80s dance film "Breakin’."
Sarles co-edited the MTV Video Music Award winning Legs for Warner Bros. recording artists ZZ Top, the break through three time MTV Video Music Award nominated video Longview for Green Day, as well as a score of other music videos for top rock, rap and country artists. Formerly the head of the Commercial Editorial Department at the acclaimed special effects company Industrial Light & Magic, Sarles edited a number of television spots, including award winning commercials directed by Barry Sonnenfeld and James Cameron for clients like Nike, Reebok, British Petroleum, Toyota, KFC, NFL/United Way and Miller Beer.
Since 1995 Bob Sarles has produced and edited over twenty-five artist tribute films for the annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremonies. He has directed and edited DVDs that have been distributed world wide by Time Life, Image Entertainment and Eagle Vision. Sarles edited and co-directed the concert film Phil Lesh & Friends Live At The Warfield, directed and edited the concert film Elvis Costello & Clover: Our Aim Is True, and edited the concert film Lucinda Williams & Buick 6 at El Rey Theater. Sarles recently produced and edited a nine DVD series for Time Life, directed a PBS pledge break special hosted by Paul Shaffer.
